How to get rid of construction debris in Massachusetts

Asphalt pavement, brick, concrete, clean gypsum wallboard, metal, and wood are restricted under MassDEP waste bans. Many transfer stations take small residential remodeling loads for a tonnage or minimum fee; full building demolition usually needs a C&D processor.

Facts checked against Mass.gov and town sources on 2026-11-05.

Statewide C&D related bans

MassDEP bans asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, clean gypsum wallboard, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and (from landfills) treated and untreated wood and wood waste from disposal or transfer for disposal as listed on the waste bans guide. Use a town transfer station when it accepts residential remodeling debris, or a MassDEP-listed C&D handling facility for larger loads. Towns often prohibit whole-building demolition debris at resident stickers.
