Who can use it
Charlestown residents only, for non-commercial household waste. Vehicles must display a Town vehicle identification sticker. The Town does not provide curbside rubbish removal; residents use the CRCC or hire a private hauler.
Hours
- Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday: closed
- Closed on state or federal holidays that fall on a scheduled open day (no makeup day)
Sticker or permit
Required: Yes
Price: $30 vehicle identification sticker (Town Clerk page). Bag tags: $18.50 per sheet of five. Temporary use pass: $10 for 14 consecutive days (per CRCC rules PDF).
Where to buy: Charlestown Town Clerk's Office, 4540 South County Trail (Town Hall). Bring current vehicle registration. Bag tags also sold at Rippy's Market and Compass Hardware.
Notes: Sticker expires December 31 each year per CRCC regulations. PAYT: trash in bags up to 39 gallons / 35 lb with a bag tag. Check or debit/credit at CRCC for bins (no cash for bins per RIRRC); confirm current payment rules at Clerk and CRCC. An older July 2022 regs PDF listed a $20 sticker and $18 bag-tag sheet; use Clerk pricing and confirm at purchase.

Holiday closures
If a state or federal holiday falls on a regularly scheduled open day, the CRCC is closed. If the holiday is observed on Monday, the CRCC does not open another day to compensate.

- Load capacity limited to about 1 ton. Out-of-town contractor vehicles for cleanups are not allowed.
